March Garment Care Update
Dear Jeeves Clients,
Warm greetings and happy March as we step into spring. With February being unusually warm in Hong Kong and temperatures set to rise, now is an ideal time to store your down jackets, knitwear, and other winter garments, especially if you are not travelling to cooler climates.
This month, our Members Promotion highlights our professional vacuum packing service. Household vacuum bags simply remove air and can trap moisture, which prevents garments from breathing. If items are not properly cleaned, oxidation and long term damage may occur.
At Jeeves, our vacuum packs are designed for preservation. We extract all air and introduce a small amount of nitrogen to slow deterioration, prevent oxidation, and reduce yellowing. This process requires specialised equipment and is ideal for long term storage.
For clients storing garments at home, we recommend the following care tips:
- Keep humidity low. Dehumidifiers work better than air conditioners because air conditioners create moisture through condensation.
- Avoid mixing worn garments with freshly cleaned ones. Sweat and oils can transfer and cause mould or oxidation.
- Handle garments with clean hands. Natural oils can create invisible stains that develop over time.
- Clean garments before long term storage to slow mould and oxidation.
- Rotate and air out garments occasionally to keep fibres healthy.
- Treat stains early. Once they oxidise, they become very difficult to remove safely.
